Virtual Vocation Retreat – May 15-16, 2020

We never would have dreamed of a Virtual Retreat back in February!  Our real-life May retreat had to be cancelled due to the pandemic, but we know that Our Lord continues to call young women to Himself, perhaps even more so during this time when normal life is disrupted, we are all longing for our Eucharistic Lord, and the need for intercession is all the more clear.

Could God be calling you to become a Dominican nun?  We give ourselves to Jesus through Mary in a consecrated life of community, liturgical and private prayer, study and work, animated by zeal for souls, at the heart of the holy preaching of the Dominican Order.  Our monastery keeps Eucharistic Adoration and Perpetual Rosary, and we cherish a love for liturgical tradition and Latin chant.

When will the Virtual Vocation Retreat take place?  Our tentative plan is to begin the first live session around 4:00 pm Central Time on Friday, May 15.  The final live session will be Compline (Night Prayer), which will conclude around 9:00 pm on Saturday, May 16.

What will the Virtual Vocation Retreat be like?    We will share our life through interactive talks by nuns and friars, through streaming liturgy, and through a real-life vocation packet, along with suggestions for personal prayer and monastic practices for the times in between our online events.  Although a virtual retreat cannot replace the experience of actually visiting our monastery, it seemed worth a try in order to give some taste of our life to the young women who had already signed up for our May retreat and others who would like to attend.  A crucial component will be how you spend your prayer time during “breaks” at home.  (You should also read our Vocation Retreats page to see what we aim at in our normal retreats.)

Who can attend the Virtual Vocation Retreat?

  • Are you a single, practicing Catholic young woman between the ages of 16 (or a junior in high school) and 27?
  • Are you considering a religious vocation?  (Are you drawn to a life dedicated totally to God and the salvation of souls?  Are you asking, “O Lord, how can I dedicate my life to You?”)
  • When you see the information on our website, do you think, “I’d really like to learn more about this community in particular”?

How do I sign up?  Request to attend by filling out our Vocation Inquiry Form.  Space will be limited, so if you are interested, contact the Vocation Directress soon.

Are there any other details?  Further details will be shared with retreatants by e-mail, as we are new to this technology and are still figuring out the best way to share our life through a Virtual Vocation Retreat.

Help spread the news!  Do you know any young women who might be interested in our contemplative Dominican life?  Please share on social media and help those whom God might be calling to our life discover our vocation!  May God bless and Our Lady keep you.
